What we collect, and why.

Last updated 14 October 2026

We are asking independent businesses to trust us with their trading relationships. That starts with being straight about data. This page is written to be read, not to be survived.

Who we are

This site is operated by Business Connector, a pre-launch platform for connecting independent local businesses directly. We decide what happens to the information collected here, which in data protection terms makes us the controller.

We are not yet open to the public. Right now this site does one thing: it accepts applications for founding membership.

What we collect

What you type into the application form

Your name, business email, business name, where you are based, the kind of business you run, how long you have been trading, and whatever you write in the free-text box. You choose all of it. Nothing is required beyond what the form marks as required.

Analytics — only if you accept

If you click Accept on the cookie banner, Google Analytics records which pages you viewed, roughly where in the world you are, what kind of device you used, and which buttons you clicked. If you decline, or ignore the banner, no analytics script is loaded at all — not blocked after the fact, simply never requested. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as a decline without asking.

Hosting logs

Our host records standard server logs, including IP addresses, as every web server does. These are generated automatically and we do not use them to build any profile of you.

Why we are allowed to hold it

WhatWhy we use itLegal basis
Application formTo assess your application, reply to you, and tell you when we open in your areaLegitimate interest in responding to a request you made of us
AnalyticsTo see which parts of this page work and which do notYour consent, given through the cookie banner
Hosting logsTo keep the site running and defend it from abuseLegitimate interest in site security

Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time using the Cookie settings link, and that is as easy as giving it.

Who else handles it

Both are in the United States, so your data leaves the EEA and the UK. Transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified under it, and on standard contractual clauses otherwise.

We do not sell your data, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not pass your details to other businesses on the platform without you asking us to.

How long we keep it

Cookies

Three, and only one of them exists before you say yes.

NameSet byWhat it doesLifetime
bc_consentUsRemembers whether you accepted or declined, so we stop asking. Stored in your browser, never sent to us.6 months
_gaGoogleDistinguishes one visitor from another. Only set after you accept.13 months
_ga_*GoogleKeeps track of a single visit. Only set after you accept.13 months

Change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link, here or in the footer. Declining after you accepted also deletes the Google cookies already on your device.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA or the UK, the GDPR gives you the right to ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to limit what we do with it, to receive it in a portable format, and to object to our use of it. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.

If you are in California — and since we are opening in Portland and expanding to the Bay Area, you may well be — the CCPA gives you the right to know what we collect, to have it deleted, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of that. We do not sell or share personal information as the CCPA defines those terms.

To exercise any of these, email us. We will not ask you to justify the request, and we will reply within 30 days.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects people who have already applied, we will email them rather than quietly editing the page.
